The Advocate, NOTICE - - - CITY OF BAKER SCHOOL BOARD SPECIAL MEETING April 14, 2015 MINUTES The City of Baker School Board met in the Board Room of the City of Baker School Board Office beginning at 6:00 p.m. on April 14, 2015. Mrs. Elaine G. Davis, Board President, called the meeting to order. A roll call was taken by Mrs. Davis: ALEXANDER: Present CARPENTER: Present DAVIS: Present BOXIE: Present JOHNSON: Present A moment of silent meditation was led by Mrs. Boxie, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Dr. Carpenter. Mrs. Davis welcomed all visitors to the meeting. On motion of Mrs. Boxie seconded by Dr. Carpenter, the Board voted to approve the agenda. Voting yes: Davis, Boxie, Alexander, Carpenter and Johnson. Voting no: None. On motion of Dr. Carpenter seconded by Mrs. Boxie, the Board voted to approve the minutes from the meetings of March 3, 2015 and March 31, 2015. Voting yes: Davis, Boxie, Alexander, Carpenter and Johnson. Voting no: None. Following a presentation by Mr. Everrett Parker, Supervisor of Information Management, Technology Services and Creative Arts, on motion of Dr. Carpenter seconded by Mrs. Boxie, the Board voted to approve the E-Rate for the City of Baker School System which included the following contracts: For Internet Access: a three-year contract with Detel to provide 250 mbps of Internet Access for $1,899 per month, with the ability to increase to 500mbs if the need arises. For Wide Area Network (WAN) Services: a three-year contract with Detel to provide 1 gbps at each site, 6 gbps at the host site for $1,099 per site/per month. Voting yes: Davis, Boxie, Alexander, Carpenter and Johnson. Voting no: None. On motion of Dr. Carpenter seconded by Mrs. Boxie, the Board voted to eliminate the maintenance department and grass cutting employees and assign the task to Mr. Clay Slagle with Volkert, Inc. The maintenance/grass cutting employees will continue in their jobs under the supervision of Mr. Slagle until June 30, 2015. Voting yes: Davis, Boxie, Carpenter and Johnson. Voting no: Alexander. Superintendent Joseph made the following announcement: Baker Heights Elementary School experienced an electrical outage on Monday, April 13, 2015, which necessitated students being dismissed at 9:30 a.m. Power was restored and students returned to school on Tuesday, April 14th. Mrs. Davis announced that the Graduation Cohort Rate had been released and Baker High School had gone from 71.6% to 81.2 %, an increase of 9.6%. Mrs. Davis thanked those in attendance for coming and announced that the next meeting of the City of Baker School Board would be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the School Board Office. There being no further business, on motion of Mrs. Boxie seconded by Mrs. Johnson, the Board voted to adjourn at 7:00 p.m. Voting yes: Davis, Boxie, Alexander, Carpenter and Johnson. Voting no: None.
