The Advocate, PUBLIC NOTICE Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East Board of Commissioners Pursuant to R.S. 38:330.1 et seq., notice is hereby given that applications are being accepted from persons interested in serving on the Board of Commissioners for the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-East). There are a total of nine (9) members serving on the Board of Commissioners. Two members terms will expire on July 1, 2015, creating two vacancies on the Board of Commissioners. A Nominating Committee comprised of civic, professional and academic organizations shall review applications and recommend individuals for appointment by the Governor and confirmation by the Senate. The Nominating Committee is comprised of representatives from the following organizations: the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana, Council for a Better Louisiana, Louisiana Geological Survey, Association of State Floodplain Managers, National Society of Black Engineers, UNO College of Engineering, Tulane University School of Science & Engineering, Southern University College of Engineering, LSU College of Engineering, Louisiana Engineering Society, and American Society of Civil Engineers. The two vacancies create openings for 4-year terms, one for a resident of the parish of Tangipahoa, and one for a resident outside the territorial jurisdiction of SLFPA-East. Once the two new members are appointed, the composition of the Board must meet the residency and occupational qualifications defined below. RESIDENCY & QUALIFICATIONS There shall be at least, and not more than, one member from each parish within the territorial jurisdiction of the authority. The territorial jurisdiction includes St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa Parishes and the east side of the Mississippi River in Jefferson and Orleans Parishes. The remaining members shall reside outside of the territorial jurisdiction of SLFPA-E. Engineering/Related Field Five members shall have backgrounds in engineering, geotechnology, hydrology, or environmental science. Of the five members, one member shall be a civil engineer. Non-Engineering Professional Two members shall come from fields other than engineering, geotechnology, hydrology, or environmental science and have at least ten years of professional experience in their field. At-Large Members Two members shall be at-large, and can serve with or without technical or professional qualifications.
